Brooke Shields knows when she’s out of her element.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the Blue Lagoon star opened up about what it was like watching her daughter, Grier Henchy, 18, make her runway debut during the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show at New York Fashion Week on Sept. 18.
“I was blown away by my daughter. I really was,” Shields, 59, told PEOPLE exclusively.

“Because I can’t coach that,” she said. "How would I even walk like that?”
The Suddenly Susan star went on to explain that posing for editorial (i.e. print) shoots is entirely different from walking a runway, so she couldn’t offer her youngest daughter much guidance.
Shields did, however, reveal the one piece of hilarious advice she did give Grier.
“Grier goes, ‘What should I do?’” Shields recalled. “And I go, ‘Look hungry and angry.’"
She’s like, ‘You’re no help.’ I’m like, ‘I never walked the runway. I don’t know how to do this.’”
“But she took it very seriously,” the proud mom continued. “She took the sc -
hooling from whoever was going to give it to her, and she didn't think she knew better, which I was very proud of.”

Shields, who is also mom to daughter Rowan Henchy, 21, with husband Chris Henchy, initially had major reservations about her daughter’s chosen career path.
“I fought it for so long,” she said in a 2023 interview on Live with Kelly and Mark.
“It’s such a different industry now than it was. She’s interested in runway, and that’s brutal. I never did runway. I don’t think I would have been able to handle it.”
She continued, saying, “I finally had to give in and say if you’re gonna do this a.) I’m not gonna be your manager. You're going to be with an agency. You’re going to have a great work ethic. It’s not going to be comfortable and you're gonna listen to me.”
