The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has launched a streaming platform called Eurovision Sport.

A free direct-to-consumer service offering thousands of hours live sports broadcasting, the streamer is available for desktop, mobile and both ioS and Android apps. Later this year it will be available via connected TVS and selected ad-supported television channels. Nagravision developed and operate the Eurovision Sport platform for the EBU.

The new platform aims to complement public service broadcasters’ existing coverage and showcase a wide variety of events, from the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, which kicked off last week to next month’s World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

On behalf of public service media, the EBU manages media rights for 14 sports and, via agreements with 28 international federations, delivers more than 43,000 hours of sport content a year.

The new platform will cover sports including athletics, gymnastics, skiing and swimming and will broadcast events from world to European championships, multi-sport events and national championships.

o;With the support of public service media, we’ll be able to provide sports federations with an unrivalled shop window for their sports around the world,” said Glen Killane, executive director for sport at the EBU. “In this fragmented digital world, it is difficult and expensive for sports fans to find and access the sport they love and for sports federations to attract new audiences. This digital platform provides a solution to both of those problems. Together with our members, the EBU will ensure that every second of our events are available to all for free in every country in Europe and around the world.”

The EBU are a union made up of public broadcasters across Europe and beyond. They are perhaps best known for being the organization behind the annual Eurovision Song Contest.
