An Ohio man is accused of killing his mother and critically injuring his father during an argument, authorities said.

Kenneth Mortimer, 40, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the alleged attack on his parents, according to a statement from the Green Township Police Department in Ohio.

On Friday, Aug. 9, just before 4 p.m., officers were called to a Green Township home on a report of a stabbing, police said. When they arrived, officers found two victims with stab wounds. 

The suspect’s mother, Barbara Mortimer, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 75-year-old father, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

According to court documents obtained by WCPO-TV, WVTM and The Cincinnati Enquirer, investigators allege an argument between Kenneth and his parents led to the stabbing. His mother told him he couldn’t -

stay the night at home and asked Kenneth’s father to call psychiatric services, per the documents.

That’s when Kenneth allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his parents, who were seated on the couch, the court documents allege. The documents state Barbara ran out of the home, but Kenneth allegedly pulled her back in and continued stabbing her before fleeing the scene.

According to the police statement, Kenneth was later arrested in Cincinnati.

Court documents cited by the outlets state Kenneth allegedly confessed to stabbing his parents.

Online jail records show Kenneth is being held on $2 million bond. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
