North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson was reportedly hospitalized after being injured at a campaign event in Mt. Airy, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 27.
The Republican nominee for North Carolina governor, 56, is "currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy," Robinson's gubernatorial campaign communications director Mike Lonergan told CNN Friday night.
Robinson “is in good spirits, appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, and is excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled first thing tomorrow morning," Lonergan added.
NewsNation was the first to break the news of Robinson's hospitalization.
There were no confirmed reports of what types of burns Robinson sustained or what caused the burns, but Washington Post reporter Amy Gardner tweeted that Robinson burned his hand after leaning against a truck and that he has been discharged from the hospital and back at home.
On Friday morning, Robinson shared his excitement about hitting the campaign trail.

In his more recent post that went up Friday afternoon, Robinson shared photos of heavily flooded areas, writing, "As the images of the devastation in and around Western North Carolina continue to pour in, I cannot help but be overcome with grief for those who are suffering. Loss is never easy, but as a community, we will rally and come back stronger than ever."
Earlier this week, Robinson's campaign said it had hired the Binnall Law Group to help investigate aCNN reportthat said Robinson made explicit racial and sexual posts on a pornography website’s message board between 2008 and 2012, per the Associated Press. Per CNN, Robinson also previously mocked school shooting survivors.

Robinson has denied making the comments and described the report's contents as "false smears."
Several of Robinson's staffers have quit following the CNN report's release, including his senior advisor and campaign manager, the AP reports.
