Ryan ReynoldsandRob McElhenneyare close friends, owners of a Welsh soccer team, and now beer owners, too.
Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, 47, announced they are the new co-owners of Wrexham Lager Beer Co Ltd in a video, shared first with PEOPLE. The company is the oldest lager brewery still existing in Great Britain and has been brewing in Wales since 1882.
The venture comes nearly four years after the actors entered their bid for Wrexham AFC in 2020 andfinalized the purchase in February 2021.
To share the news, Reynolds and McElhenney made a video using 1882 technology to convey how the drink leaves them "literally speechless."
"We're now proud co-owners of Wrexham Lager," types Reynolds as he opens a can of the beer. McElhenney explains that they are typing out their message as a nod to when the beer first started brewing.
Reynolds' hand soon starts "cramping" and they "move on to the drinking part."
In a joint statement shared with PEOPLE, the actors reflect on the company's rich history.
"Wrexham Lager was enjoyed by the passeng -
ers of the Titanic. Soon it will be enjoyed by everyone," they said. "What does it taste like? Imagine the taste of two movie stars flirting, dancing and carriage-sexing with an iceberg cold finish akin to being dropped in the ocean in an evening gown on a door made for one. It tastes like that. With a thrilling side of diamond heist."
Wrexham Lager currently sells a lager, lager export, and a pilsener. It's sold in the UK, Australia, Japan, Scandinavia — and "distribution in the US and Canada is set to go live in the coming months," according to a press release.
