A woman says she won't be her sister's maid of honor after her sister was "a nightmare" during her own wedding — even giving a "humiliating" speech

A woman says she won't be her sister's maid of honor after her sister was "a nightmare" during her own wedding — even giving a "humiliating" speech.

In a post shared anonymously to Reddit, the 28-year-old woman says she asked her 30-year-old sister to be her maid of honor two years ago.

Though the two had "always had a rocky relationship," the woman writes, "I thought it could bring us closer."

She continues: "However, she made the whole process a nightmare — complaining about the dress, skipping out on planning, and even showing up late on the wedding day."

The "worst part," though, was the sister's wedding speech.

"During her speech, she made a 'joke' about how she was surprised I found someone who could 'put up with me,' " the woman writes in the post. "It was humiliating, and I was on the verge of tears in front of everyone."

married and wants the Reddit poster to be her maid of honor.

"I said no," she writes. "I told her I couldn't do it after what happened at my wedding. She blew up at me, saying I’m being petty and holding a grudge."

The women's parents think she needs to "just let it go for the sake of family peace," but she says she still feels "hurt."

Most commenters agree that the poster is right to be upset, with one writing, "Saying no is the polite adult response," as she could have instead gotten revenge by accepting her maid of honor duties and delivering "the most insulting speech she could possibly devise."

One Reddit user advised the original poster to serve only as "an honorary maid of honor," by investing as little as possible in the planning.

"Tell your parents if they wanted family peace, they should have reprimanded your sister in the first place," the commenter added.

Another commenter offered slightly different advice, writing, "If I were you, accept the MOH role and say the exact speech she made at your wedding. Kudos!"
