The brave girl's father said he was "proud" of his daughter for having the "guts to pick up a snake and save her pet's life"

A girl took extreme measures to save her precious guinea pig, fighting off a snake that tried to eat the pet rodent.

Australian radio host Kip Wightman shared a video on social media of his niece, Rosie, protecting her guinea pig in her backyard from a giant reptile, which went viral online with over 8,800 views.

In the video, shared by Storyful, the 12-year-old Rosie moves to a corner behind her house searching for her pet guinea pig, MaxiBon. She appears to spot her pet and discovers the guinea pig in the jaws of a massive snake.

The girl courageously bends down, grabs hold of the snake's tail, and, to save her guinea pig, begins whirling the reptile in a circle in an attempt to get the snake to drop her pet.

Rosie told 7News Australia that she acted on pure instinct. "Didn't even think it through. I was just like, 'grab the snake, grab the snake.'"

The girl's father, Luke Wightman, said he was alerted to the situation after hearing Rosie "screaming -

at the top of her lungs." He went outside to find his daughter "holding the snake like a hammer thrower." Wightman then stepped in to help, and together, the pair freed MaxiBon and threw the snake over their garden wall, according to Storyful.

"I realized that wasn't ideal for the neighbors, and I chased after it and watched it slither away unhurt although a little dizzy," Wightman told the Australian outlet.

He described the snake to Storyful as a 2.5-meter python, but the reptile's exact species remains unclear.

Wightman said "Rosie is doing amazing" following the incident, adding that she was "just super relieved that MaxiBon survived." As for MaxiBon, he was "also doing fine like nothing happened" and was "chilling with his brother Yochi."
