‘Bob Marley’ Continues U.K., Ireland Box Office Reign as ‘Dune 2’ Looms

Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” topped the U.K. and Ireland box office for the second consecutive weekend with £2.3 million ($3 million), according to numbers from Comscore.

The biopic now has a total of £11.3 million after its second weekend on release. Studiocanal’s “Wicked Little Letters” debuted in second place with £1.6 million. Universal’s “Migration” slid down a place to third with £1.4 million in its fourth weekend for a total of £16.4 million.

Sony’s “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To The Hashira Training” bowed in fourth position with £641,878. Rounding off the top five was another Sony title, “Madame Web,” which earned £602,018 in its second weekend for a total of £3.4 million.

The National Theatre Live release of filmed play “Vanya” with Andrew Scott premiered in 737 venues across U.K. and Ireland on Feb. 22, its widest release since the initiative began in 2009. National Theatre Live screenings play in a variety of venues which include cinemas, arts centres, community centres and village halls. It collected £327,444 over the weekend in sixth place to surpass £1 million.

This week, Tuesday, Feb. 27 sees the release of two speciality releases – Seventh Art Distribution’s “Exhibition On Screen: Painting The Modern Garden – Monet To Matisse 20” and Kaleidoscope Entertainment’s “Hamlet,” starring Ian McKellen.

The massive release on the Friday is “Dune: Part Two,” which Warner Bros. is opening across more than 300 locations. The all-star cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem reprising their roles from the first film, with Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux joining them.

Signature Entertainment is giving a wide release to animation “Combat Wombat,” while Universal is opening comedy-horror “Lisa Frankenstein.” Modern Films is bowing Kaouther Ben Hania’s acclaimed Oscar-nominated, Cannes-winning documentary “Four Daughters.” Another acclaimed documentary, “Theatre Of Violence,” is being released by Dogwoof.

Tull Stories is releasing Tallinn Black Nights-winning comedy-drama “Driving Mum,” while Curzon is bowing drama “Red Island,” which has had considerable festival play including at San Sebastian and London.

The highlight of the Indian releases this weekend is Kiran Rao’s sophomore effort, the feminist romp “Laapata Ladies,” which gained much acclaim when it premiered at Toronto 2023. Yash Raj Films is distributing.
