According to Puxsatawney Phil, spring is soon to be sprung — which means it’s time to break out the transitional staples. It’s as if Blake Lively predicted the news herself, because she already wore a quintessential layering piece this week.
In an Instagram reel made in collaboration with Cedric Grole at The Berkeley, a bakery in London, Lively put her taster skills to the test, mischievously swiping pastries from their display spots as soon as the chef could place them. While indulging her samples, the actress looked ultra-cozy in her green button-down shirt, which she paired expertly with a slouchy taupe beanie and baggy pants.
We don’t know exactly what brand Lively’s pseudo sous-chef shirt-of-choice is, but there are plenty of oversized button-downs to go around. And the best part about them is their versatility: You can wear them through spring for a light layer of warmth and keep them on rotation in summer as a beach cover-up.
Below, we rounded up some similar button-down styles for your perusing — and prices start at $26.
This 100 percent cotton shirt visually mimics Lively’s button-down and is under $40. You may not notice it in the pictures, but it also has pockets -
, which reviewers love. Shoppers are saying it’s “very stylish” and “truly oversized.” In fact, some recommend sizing down. Plus, there are 15 other colors to choose from, including neutrals, like beige and black, and vibrant options, like hot pink and light green.
Fun fact: This classic shirt style was pulled from The Gap’s archives because it’s that good. Unlike Lively’s pick, it has a more masculine edge thanks to its utility-style front pockets. It’s made of a soft rayon blend, which makes it cool and comfortable. The shirt is available in sizes XXS to XXL and is currently on sale for just $34.
If there was a green version of the classic denim button-down worn by Chessy in The Parent Trap, this would be it. The loose fit is complemented by dropped shoulders and the back has gathers and a curved shirttail hem for a bit of understated structure. Paired with distressed jeans, we would call that a chef’s kiss ’fit.
If you’re a fan of Lively’s button-down style but not the color, some of our other picks come in other neutral shades, including beige, black, and white. Better yet, it’s worth picking up a few different options to have handy, because once you style one, it’s all you’ll want to wear. Below, shop more button-down shirts inspired by Blake Lively.
