Gwyneth Paltrow is making fashion fun again.

The Goop founder, 51, shared a few of her OOTDs from her “relaxed January” on Instagram earlier this month, and a certain pair of pants caught our eye. In the first photo, she wore wide-leg jeans, which wasn’t at all out of the blue: Anne Hathaway pulled out a white wide-leg pair in December, Katie Holmes styled black ones in September, and Jennifer Lawrence wore a darker denim style last March.

So, what really registered about Paltrow’s outfit? The bright red color of her pants. It was a productive change-up from other colors, and while definitely the centerpiece of her outfit, it didn’t look overdone.

Denim is worn so frequently that it’s almost like its own “neutral.” That’s why adding some color into your outfit every now and then is important. Colorful pants require minimal effort, but instantly make any basic outfit anew with their eye-popping payoff.

And don’t feel like you have to switch up everything you know about your style: Wear them in whichever silhouette you prefer, whether that’s wide-leg, like Paltrow, or flare jeans. The important thing is opting for something beyond just blue, black, or white.

Jeans are usually made from thick denim that can feel itchy, thick, and heavy. But according to shoppers, these shaping skinny ones appear to be the opposite: “They’re stretchy enough I could probably do y -

oga in them, but they look just like regular jeans,” said one five-star reviewer. Many others described them as “lightweight” and the “most comfortable” jeans.

And compared to many others on the market, which cost more than $100 each, these are only $30, depending on the size and color. So even if you do buy two or three pairs, you’re still probably paying less than you would elsewhere.

For more leg room, a bootcut style à la these Levi’s jeans is typically looser from the knee-down. These on-sale pants are also high-rise for a little more support and waist-snatching, and they come in sizes 24 to 34 with both short and regular inseams. The brand is also one that Hilary Duff wears.

Style them with a striped sweater and some comfy Mary Janes to recreate Paltrow’s look. Then bring them into spring with a pretty eyelet blouse and Birkenstock sandals.

One of the other cool things about colorful jeans is that you don’t have to stick with just red. You can choose based on your favorite color or whatever’s trending — peachy pairs and mauve cargos, they’re all fair play.

If you just like a really clean-looking aesthetic, there are styles that are still technically colors, but fall more in line with neutrals. This Abercrombie & Fitch pair, for example, has such a pale pink color that it almost comes off more cream.
