Variety’s Haley Kluge Honored With National Magazine Award for Journalists Under 30

Variety’screative director HaleyKluge has been honored by the American Society of Magazine Editors‘ 59th annual National Magazine Awards. She received an ASME NEXT Award for Journalists Under 30, which recognize outstanding achievements by early-career print and digital journalists.

Nominated by Variety’s co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, Kluge will be honored alongside Vulture’s Rebecca Alter, The Hollywood Reporter’s Lovia Gyarkye, New York Magazine’s Isabela Quintero and MIT Technology Review’s Zeyi Yang.

As creative director, Kluge oversees the design and visual language of the weekly print magazine, website and digital channels. She rejoined Variety in 2023 after previously working at the publication from 2018 to 2021, where she held several positions, including art director. During her hiatus at Variety, she spent a year on the design team of Netflix’s Tudum.

Kluge was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for media in 2024, where she was recognized as the younges -

t-ever creative director in Variety’s 117-year history. She has also received accolades from the Society of Illustrators and National Arts and Entertainment Awards. Kluge is a member of the Society of Publication Designers’ Board, which she joined in 2020.

She graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Considered among the most prestigious honors in digital and print journalism, ASME’s National Magazine Awards will be presented at Terminal 5 on West 56th Street in New York City on April 2. Over 250 magazines and websites enter the awards each year, submitting 1,000-plus entries — which are judged by more than 300 distinguished writers, editors, art directors and photo editors.
